Doing things “differently” is a common claim made by organisations globally – and we say it too. What sets European Cargo apart from many other brands is that our operation actually is different.
And it has been since day one.
We are an innovative cargo operator
European Cargo enables global organisations to move their goods worldwide, and our bespoke cargo aircraft offer reliable, long-range and agile delivery.
We delivered our first cargo as a response to an urgent call for PPE and testing kits during the 2020 pandemic. We stripped out the inside of our first A340-600 and stacked it full. After this initial success, we went on to charter over 400 flights, bringing these essential deliveries to the NHS.

European Aviation Ltd conceived European Cargo thanks to urgency and out-of-the-box thinking. This innovative mindset is embedded within the entire organisation and influences our approach to operations, business decisions and engineering.
A unique, updated configuration
These quadjet aircraft are iconic in the aviation industry, and getting them back into service during the pandemic was an industry first. This was quickly followed by another first, as we went on to design a unique passenger-to-freight (P2F) modification, which we have since implemented across the entire fleet. Learn in detail about this unique setup here.

To support innovation, the operations, engineering and team behind it all offer our global customers a reliable service that gets their goods from A to B and beyond, to the end customer.

Because we are operating differently, we often get questions about our operation and how it all works. Let’s answer them…
What makes European Cargo innovative?
European Cargo is the world’s only A340-600 P2F operator, equipped with our unique and patented cargo modification. This patented design gives these four-engine aircraft a new purpose, and our customers a long-range solution for transporting goods globally.
Beyond this unique configuration, we’re regularly finding new revenue streams to support business growth and local exports.
What is European Cargo’s unique configuration?
Instead of seats, on the upper deck, you can now find 39 bespoke, built-in ‘pods’, which offer a secure, fire-resistant solution for holding boxed and package cargo. These goods are loaded into the plane via the passenger entrance and rolled down the gangway on a specialist rolling system.
The lower deck can hold up to 14 large airfreight pallets, which means in total we can carry, long-distance, up to 75 tonnes of payload – an incredible amount of cargo.
What services does European Cargo offer?
We offer long-term, scheduled air cargo programmes. We design a bespoke programme to ensure you have a smooth and regular schedule. We also offer ad hoc charter flights for one-off or short-term air freight.
European Cargo offers an agile operation. Decisions move quickly because the team, fleet and schedules are designed to meet the needs of our customers.
Where does European Cargo fly from?
We fly out of regional hubs, notably Bournemouth and Cardiff Airports, with local connectivity to major motorways and handling facilities. This helps get cargo on the road quickly, as we avoid the traffic congestion often found around larger airports and cities.
How reliable are the A340-600s that European Cargo operate?
Every single aircraft we fly has been through a rigorous maintenance and certification programme. Whilst our fleet is roughly 17 years old, each plane remains well within its lifecycle and has been restored with extensive maintenance investment.
So much so, even Airbus are thoroughly impressed with what we have achieved in getting these aircraft back into regular service. Safe to say, they’re all reliable aircraft.
How does European Cargo handle cargo?
The bellyhold uses a traditional approach to handling with palettes and lifts. On the upper deck, our manual handling process is designed for consistency and efficiency – boxes and packages are carefully rolled down the gangway on a specialist rolling system.
Our teams are highly trained and use a fixed loading pattern to ensure a protective, low-risk loading and offloading process for any type of goods.

And finally…
Our customers are at the heart of the operation. We work tirelessly to design bespoke charter freight solutions that suit your cargo type, with an optimal schedule, competitive price and on-time performance. A 24/7 in-house operations team support all air freight flights – including ground handling, operational requirements, flight dispatch and flight following services to ensure a flawless and uninterrupted service.
We take safety, professionalism, quality and performance very seriously. Our flight crew, engineers and load masters are made up of experienced industry professionals who pride themselves on operational excellence.
And if that sounds like an airline you’d like to do business with, then get in touch.
